Information about replacing windows for your garage:

Two different types of single glazed replacement windows:

Single-glazed clear: relative to all other glazing options, single-glazed with clear glass allows the highest transfer of energy (i.e. heat loss or heat gain depending on local climate conditions) while permitting the highest daylight transmission.

Single-glazed with bronze/gray Tint: The primary purpose of bronze or gray tinted glass is to reduce solar heat gain. But, it also reduces visible light as compared to Single-Glazed Clear Glass or even other standard tinted glass products such as green and blue tints which offer significantly higher visible light transmission. Tinted glass is useful in controlling glare, but solar heat gain and visible light transmission may be reduced relative to the performance of alternate glazing options such as High-Performance Tinted Glass or Low-E Glass with Moderate or Low-E Glass with Low Solar Gain. The tint has no effect on the U-factor but reduces solar heat gain which may be a benefit in the summer and a liability in the winter depending on local climate conditions.

Best wood for interior shutters
Basswood is a top choice for interior window shutters. Averaging 65 feet in height, it grows from Quebec to Delaware along the Atlantic Coast and west into Kentucky. It is a renewable resource. Each year, given careful forest management, the United States grows almost twice as much hardwood as it harvests.

Some people ask if they should tape their exterior window shutters in case of high winds. According to the government website aoml.noaa.gov, taping your shutters will not do any good in high winds. For more information visit Greys Wooden Shutters.

The Window Sill from the Designer's Standpoint
It is extremely important that the window sills in your home or building are constructed so that any excess water accumulation will be carried away from the structure and not build up and seep into the window sill or wall of the structure, where it can cause damage. In order to achieve this, the top surface of the window sill will slope in a downward manner that will channel water away. The slope will be at least fifteen-degrees from the horizontal if it is to be effective. For more information about window treatments and ideas.

Fabric blinds can add a warm look to your home
Pleated fabric blinds or pleated shades when closed or pulled up will sit flat at the top of the window. The other type of popular fabric shade or blind is the the honeycomb shades, which operate in the same manner, but are made using two or more layers of fabric that are joined at the pleats to form honeycomb shaped compartments that trap air and provide insulation against the cold.

Types of Window Treatments
Are you looking for new window treatments for your home? Many different types of window treatments are available on the market for you to choose from. Window blinds, aluminum blinds, or mini-blinds, offer a clean, simple look. They are a popular, inexpensive choice in horizontal window treatments. They come in standard 1" and 2" sizes in many different textures and colors. Their predecessor is the horizontal PVC blind with 2" slats. On the other hand, vertical blinds, with their elongated vanes, add height and a contemporary look to a room. Honeycomb blinds of textured fabric diffuse the sunlight and soften up a room. The air pockets, or cells, in the fabric give honeycomb blinds a textured look. Honeycomb blinds are better insulators than PVC or aluminum blinds. They also come in many colors and styles. You have many choices for matching them to your décor.

Similarities of shades and blinds
Shades and blinds, though different styles, have many similarities in purpose. They both block out the light and provide privacy. Shades roll or fold up to let light in, whereas blinds are opened at different angles to permit more or less light to enter the room. When deciding between shades and blinds, consider the décor of the room. Other factors to consider are the window size and the total look you want to achieve.
If you want the stylish look of vinyl blinds, consider shopping first at discount stores. You can find discount vinyl blinds at many suppliers and wholesalers. You may spend a little more time searching for what you want, but it can be worth it when you find some good prices. So the real question is why pay retail price for your vinyl blinds? Discounted vinyl blinds can be an economical way of dressing up your windows. Start your search for vinyl blinds by knowing what you are looking for in color, texture, and design.

Deciding to make your own curtain rods? Then you may next want to go to a home improvement store and visit the window coverings department to get an idea of what parts you will need. These will include the rod itself, two finials (the ornaments that cover the end of the rod) and two or three hooks.

Quick history of Venetian blinds
Venetian blinds may originally have been invented in Persia, but the Venetians, who loved to travel and trade, brought them to Venice and then to Paris and got credit for the invention. Venetian blinds are shown in 18th century paintings of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Soon they were seen in prestigious buildings such as the RCA Building in New York City.

Shade fabrics range from sheer to opaque
Pleated shade fabrics range from sheer to opaque and come in a wide range of colors, textures, and patterns. To coordinate your decor, you can select fabrics in matching fabric vertical blinds. Lift cords are invisible. Pleated window shades consist of a single layer of fabric and don't provide the same level of insulation as cellular shades. Pleated shades, however, are less expensive than cellular shades.
