Information about garage floor drainage

Before you do anything with your garage, the best thing to do is protect the floor with a sealant, paint, tile, or mat. What you choose will depend on what you are going to use the space for, but it’s a good idea to at least choose something. If your garage is being set up as a game room for your family, you might want to find something that feels pleasant against bare feet, and looks inviting and comfortable. But if you’re turning it into a workshop, you’ll want something that won’t be easily damaged, in which case vinyl mats or plastic tiles might not be a good choice.

If you have a garage floor that is prone to collecting water and creating puddles that will eventually damage your floor, you should consider installing drains. This goes one step further by actually protecting the sealant or cover that’s protecting your floor. This causes some people to claim that it’s unnecessary, but that’s for you to judge. Drains or no drains, you’ll want to protect your floor with something, as not every threat to your garage is liquid.
